Solarize Charlotte-Mecklenburg: Affordable Solar Energy
The City of Charlotte, in partnership with Mecklenburg County, the Town of Davidson, and the Centralina Regional Council, has initiated a program titled Solarize Charlotte-Mecklenburg. Announced at the Innovation Barn on June 25, 2025, this initiative aims to enhance the accessibility and affordability of solar energy for residents, businesses, and nonprofits within the area. The campaign will offer free enrollment until October 31, 2025, with the deadline for residential contract signings set for December 31, 2025.
The Solarize model is a community-driven approach that leverages group purchasing power to reduce the cost of solar installations. By joining forces, participants can take advantage of significant discounts, making it easier and more affordable to switch to clean, renewable energy. The initiative also includes options for battery storage, allowing participants to maximize their energy independence.
To participate in the Solarize Charlotte-Mecklenburg program, visit the official website to register for a complimentary solar evaluation. This evaluation assesses your property's suitability for solar energy and provides detailed information regarding potential savings and the installation process.
Solarize Charlotte-Mecklenburg seeks to make solar energy affordable. It's part of a nationwide initiative that has seen success in Atlanta, Seattle, and Boston by lowering costs and increasing renewable energy use.
“The campaign will continue with free enrollment until Oct. 31, 2025. Following that, the deadline for residential contracts to be signed is Dec. 31, 2025. The commercial contract deadline is March 31, 2026. Installations are anticipated to continue beyond the outreach period with the goal of all installations complete on or before April 15, 2026.” - City of Charlotte Website.
